The first trailer of 2017 came from the hands of National Award-winning director, Vishal Bhardwaj. The trailer of his upcoming movie, Rangoon was released starring Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Let’s take a look..Shall We?

Up until the last moment of the trailer, everyone thought of the movie as a World-War II movie, but well that is not the case. Then, it was thought that the movie would be a biopic but that was shot down too by Vishal Bhardwaj. That’s a little disappointing!

Rangoon

Regardless of everything else.. Is it really necessary that we have to have a Love-Story or a typical Love-Triangle intruding in every story? Couldn’t it just have been a World-War II based movie with a central role played by a fearless woman? We are not saying that the movie will be bad, but is it too much to ask for from Bollywood?

“Rangoon is a love triangle set in the era of the Second World War. We have tried to create the ethos of the era but it’s a work of fiction.” Vishal Bhardwaj

Rangoon

The movie is set in 1940s, against the backdrop of World War II and takes a journey from Old Bombay to that of the Eastern lands of Rangoon (Yangon) in Burma (Myanmar).

Saif Ali Khan plays the role of a filmmaker, but it remains ambiguous of his involvement with the British government. His aristocratic look clashes very well with the dirty, down-to-earth look of Shahid Kapoor, playing the role of Nawab Malik. Kangana Ranaut plays the role of an actress, Julia, and the poster of her movie, Toofan Ki Beti, speaks a lot about her bold-new avatar.

Rangoon

Setting rumors straight, Vishal Bhardwaj said that movie didn’t follow the life of various actresses of that era (Fearless Nadia, Miss Zebunissa, Miss Padma or Ramola). He said that Rangoon was a period-drama and not a biopic.

The trailer of the movie speaks of dark humour paired with intense dialogues and strict acting scenes. There is passion in the love between Saif-Kangana-Shahid. The face-off scene in the movie between Saif and Shahid will be one to look for.

Rangoon will be released on February 24.
