If prophesized as per typical Bollywood cinema, Ajay (Shivaay), a mountaineer falls in love with Erika Kaar (Olga), while taking care of her from a foot injury but she returns to her home in Bulgaria, when she gets better. She finds out that she is pregnant and has a daughter (Abigail Eames). Olga is killed due to some conflict by the some warlord. Shivaay finds out about his daughter and the father-daughter moment can be seen in the trailer where they are seen climbing together. Abigail is kidnapped and Shivaay turns heaven and hell to find her.
The movie has garnered 15 millions views and counting. Ajay Devgan cleared that there was no religious angle in the movie and he is not portraying Lord Shiva. Apparently, Ajay has his first on-screen kiss with Erika Kaar(Polish Actress, debut in Bollywood) in the movie. Sayesha Saigal(grand niece of the legendary Saira Banu) will also be making her Hindi cinema debut with the movie. Rumors running with KRK claiming that KJo bribed him to say negative things about Shivaay as it is set to clash with KJo’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The British pop rock band, The Vamps, collaborated with Mithoon in one of the songs. During their promotional tour in USA (Meet the Devgns), Ajay and Kajol were slammed for their unprofessionalism, so much so that the organiser had to refund tickets.
What to anticipate:
You might have thought of Shivaay to be a movie with religious angles and the idea that Ajay Devgan might play the role of a contemporary Lord Shiva, someone with ultimate power, or something on the lines of Amish Tripathi’s The Shiva Trilogy, or the fact that one could see ice-monsters on the poster but you can calmly set them aside. It’s only the name of the protagonist that is Shivaay, and also the fact that he is seen with chillam and a trishul tattoo on his back and the fact that he is a mountaineer.
The trailer depicts some death-defying and sensational stunts which actually suggested that the protagonist might have supernatural powers, but sadly no. The use of ice-axes in a fight scene, where one usually sees knives is pretty interesting. The movie has been shot Mussorrie, Bulgaria and Hyderabad. The backdrop of the snow and the mountains looks beautiful in the movie. The stunts involving cars and vans do remind of Rohit Shetty’s movies.
What seems to twitch is watching Ajay and Erika romance together. I mean, Ajay seems way too old to be with such a young actress. And it fairly raises the question of this ongoing trend in Bollywood, where actors in their 40s-50s are seen romancing with actresses in their 20s.
Known for serious roles, we can hope some good acting from Ajay Devgan. The trailer looks interesting and it is sincerely hoped that the movie will turn to be much more than the trailer showcases.
