xXx Return of Xander Cage Review: In This Well-Paced Movie, Forget The Plot or Gravity.. All Eyes on Action.. Action and Action

Insight:

xXx: Return of Xander Cage begins like any other action flick, where the main agent, Xander Cage, who is thought to be dead, is on a self-imposed exile and is brought back by CIA hot-shot, Toni Colette. He is asked to recover Pandora’s Box, a weapon capable of mass destruction using satellites. Xander Cage picks up his team of thrill-seekers who help him fight against a gang of highly skilled troublemakers lead by Xiang.

Buzz:

After turning down a role in Furious 7 dues to unavailability of dates, Deepika Padukone made her Hollywood debut with this movie. In terms of replacement, UFC Champion Conor McGregor was replaced with UFC Fighter Michael Bisping and Jet Li was replaced with Donnie Yen after they pulled out of the movie. xXx: Return of Xander Cage also marks the film debut of Brazillian footballer Neymar Jr.. Kris Wu, former member of the popular Korean band EXO, made his Hollywood debut with the film too.

Kick some ass, get the girl, and try to look dope while you’re doing it.

There are no more patriots, just rebels and tyrants.

What To Anticipate:

It’s an action-movie, a hardcore action movie for God sake, so throw out the practical common sense out of the box and be prepared to be amazed by watching a person base-jumping from a really tall TV tower, skiing through Amazon, some stunts on a dirt-bike, fighting in zero-gravity, grabbing a parachute mid-air. Some of these would remind you of Inception and other action flicks.

Also, not to forget is the fact that these people or a better word, ‘Agents’ have nerves of steel to think the impossible and do the impossible, defy gravity and also the fact that their body cannot be broken down.. like literally cannot… be it speeding cars or bullets, makes them invincible. Our agent is a charmer too and every girl (obviously semi-clad) throws herself at him.

Recurring sub-themes like secret motives of government agencies, the trust factor and relying upon team as one’s family and also getting a pep-talk by the villain while holding a gun to head have become pretty common. In one of its kind, you also wish for a better villain.

The movie also has one of the most creative sniper shots that you could never imagine.

STILLS FROM THE MOVIE

Besides, Chinese actor Donnie Yen [Ip Man Fame] and Deepika Padukone, who get a decent screen-time, all the other supporting actors are reduced to stereotypical roles. Tony Jaa, the Thai action-star is the funny Asian, Ruby Rose, the Australian actress is the tough chick and Nina Dobrev, the Bulgarian beauty is the nerd chick.

You will particularly like Donnie Yen for his acting and his Kung-Fu skills which looks authentic. As far as Deepika is concerned, her role as a female-fatale agent is captivating. She plays the Indian-accented Serene Uger in a very natural, confident manner.

The good part is that, even the ladies of the movie have a fair share in the action-sequences.
